Endogenous Technological Progress and Spatial Interdependence
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper explores growth models for regions or countries which are highly interdependent, but which may differ in initial factor endowments and technology. The regions interact through trade, factor mobility and the diffusion of innovations. The implications of traditional and recent growth theories for an explicit two-region situation are identified and the properties of the growth process are estabiished. The role of policy instruments such as the investment ratio and expenditure on R&D are discussed. Both demand and supply side considerations receive attention. It is found that endogenous technical change and scale effects are likely to lead to uneven development. While steady-state growth paths may exist on which the regions grow at different rates, the stability of such steady-state growth depends on a range of behavioural parameters and the mobility of production factors.

An Empirical Assessment of the Monetary Approach to Endogenous Technical Progress Theory: DSGE approach
Economis growth is one of the main factors for evaluating the performance of governments. Economic growth itself is influenced by other factors that have been addressed in growth theories. Among the factors examined in growth theories, technical progress is of particular importance due to its long-term effects on growth. In recent growth models, the technological progress considered an endogeno...
متن کاملCompetition and Technical Change in Aghion & Howitt and Marx: a Common Vision
The aim of this paper is to give a further contribution to the literature investigating the existence of analogies between the Classical Theory and the New Growth Theory. This paper tackles with competition and technical progress in the work of Marx and in the Aghion and Howitt's model of 1992, and some of its extensions proposed by the two authors in 1998. The comparison does not rest in the e...
متن کاملInformal Networking and Industrial Life Cycles
Modern industrial development processes of new technologies are characterized by an increasing complexity and interdependence of the different actors combining different knowledge assets. Today, hardly any innovation can be assigned to one specific technological field. Also, the sciences are becoming increasingly differentiated and specialized, thus enhancing the necessity of horizontal and ver...
متن کاملCapital Accumulation, Technological Progress and Environmental Change in a Three-Sector Growth Model
This paper builds a dynamic growth model with wealth accumulation, technological change, and environmental change on the basis of the neoclassical growth theory with an alternative approach to household behavior. The model synthesizes the economic growth mechanism in the neoclassical growth theory, Arrow’s learning-by-doing, and the environmental change in some traditional dynamic models of env...
متن کاملDecomposition of Total Factor Productivity Growth of Pistachio Production in Rafsanjan Region of Iran
The stochastic frontier production model is one of the most used ways to estimate efficiency and productivity. The purpose of this paper was to decompose the sources of total factor productivity (TFP) growth into technological progress, changes in technical efficiency and changes in economies of scale. In this paper, we also used Divisia index in order to estimate production function. A random ...
